SOCIALLY DISTANT SOCIAL TIME
We know that being social is a major reason why you love the Foxborough Senior Center. With our new guidelines, it is impossible to allow seniors to congregate for extended periods of time inside the building. However, we have set up our outdoor benches to allow for socially distant conversations between friends. Starting at 9:30 a.m. each say, you can come and sit outside and catch up with friends, while remaining responsible. We request that conversation groups do not exceed 3 individuals. In addition to these benches, for those that want to be more active while catching up with friends, check out Cornhole, Horseshoes and Ping Pong areas outdoors at the senior center. You do not have to register for this activity, however, we are requesting that you check in at the front desk. Additionally, please be aware that seating will be limited, so a seat may not be available at the time you arrive.
PAOLO DIGREGORIO’S HISTORY LECTURE
Join historian Paolo DiGregorio on the Foxboro Common on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 4 p.m.as he presents a program about the Women’s Suffrage Movement and the 19th Amendment which provided equal voting rights to women. This program will be held outdoors on the Foxboro Common, and it is expected that all participants call the senior center at 508-543-1234 to pre-register and bring a lawn chair to the program. Participants will be spaced apart to accommodate social distancing and it may be necessary to wear masks for the entirety of the program according to regulations.
BOOK CLUB
On Monday, Aug. 3 at 10:15 a.m., the Book Club will meet at the senior center under the tent. This program is designed for seniors who enjoy reading or listening to books on tape. Registration is required. Call Christina at 508-543-1234, and bring your face masks.
HOTDOGS AT FOXBOROUGH HOUSING
On Tuesday, Aug. 11 at noon, residents of Foxborough Housing’s Centennial Court are invited to come and pick up at “to-go” style grilled hotdog courtesy of the Foxborough Senior Center. The grill will be located near the Community Room. Then on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at noon, residents of N. Carl Annon Court will also be invited to pick up a “to go” hotdog. The grill will be located near the administration office. Enjoy a hotdog (with toppings) and a bag of chips. Registration is required by calling 508-543-1234. Hotdogs will be ready at 12 p.m., noon.
FARMERS MARKET COUPONS
To receiver your $25 in Farmers Market Coupons, please call the senior center at 508-543-1234 to schedule an appointment. Appointments will start at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Applicants must be Foxborough residents, have limited income, be at least 60 years of age, or live with a disability and are being served by congregate meals or Meals on Wheels.
DRIVE-IN MOVIE AT THE SENIOR CENTER
With the resurgence of Drive-In Movie Theaters, we are going to try to host a drive-in movie at the senior center on Wednesday, Sept.9 at 7:30 p.m. Space will be limited, so please call us to register early. In august we will be voting on what movie will be shown.
CHAIR YOGA – Under the Tent
Starting at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, Chair Yoga classes will start once again. Chair Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting on a chair or while standing and using the chair for support. The cost for this class is $3 and is punch card eligible. Due to limited space, you must call in advance to register for the class.
TAI CHI – Under the Tent
Tai Chi is a great traditional Chinese way of relieving stress. This gradual form of exercise involves a series of movements performed in a slow focused manner. Join us on Monday mornings, starting Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible. Thank you to the Friends of Foxboro Seniors for helping to fund this program. Space is limited, so you must call to sign up in advance.
ZUMBA GOLD – Under the Tent
Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin Dance. Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. Join us on Tuesday mornings at 9:45 a.m. The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible. Space is limited, so please call in advance to sign up for the class.
STRENGTH TRAINING – Under the Tent
Strength Training Classes are held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. Each week this program features stretching routines and exercises that focus on the core, legs, arms and shoulders. Call in advance to sign up for the class. The cost for this class is $3 and is punch card eligible.
SENIOR FITNESS – Under the Tent
Senior Fitness classes are held at 9:15 a.m. every Friday morning. This class uses stretching, aerobics, and hand-held weights to focus on exercising the body from the neck to ankles. Senior Fitness is designed for all ability levels. For the time being, this class will be taught by a teacher courtesy of the YMCA. Space is limited so you must call in advance to register for the class. The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible.
KRIPALU YOGA
Yoga is the union between body, mind and spirit. Our 8-week Yoga class will be held on Fridays, Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28, Sept. 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. and the cost is $53 per person. Everyone is welcome just as they are on their own personal journey towards greater non-judgmental self- awareness. There are no fitness prerequisites, but participants should be comfortable on the floor for extended periods of time. Call us to sign up in advance.
SCRABBLE GROUP
Do you enjoy playing a game of Scrabble or would you like to learn how to play? We have a Scrabble group that meets on Monday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. at the senior center. Challenge your mind, enjoy some time with friends and have lots of fun. If you’re interested in playing, call us to sign up.
KNITTING CLUB – Under the Tent
The knitting club meets every Monday at 1 p.m. and is for beginners as well as those who would like to brush up on their skills or work on a project. Please bring your knitting needles and yarn.
BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC
Blood Pressure Clinics are being held at the senior center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. The next clinics are on Tuesdays, Aug. 11 & 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. and is being hosted by Deputy Fire Chief and Public Health Nurse Thomas Kenvin. These clinics are free. TABLE TOP GARDEN CLUB
Our Senior Center Table Top Garden club, under the direction of Marsha Lewicke, will continue to meet once again on Tuesday mornings at 9:45a.m. All are welcome and no previous gardening experience necessary. This program is free, it takes place outside and is subject to weather conditions
NUTRITION CLASS – Under the Tent
The Nutrition Class meets every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m., and each week members of the class share new healthy recipes, participate in food sampling, exchange ideas and talk about good nutrition. Join us!
SERENADING SENIORS CHORUS – Under the Tent
The Serenading Seniors is a friendly, fun group of singers with weekly rehearsals and occasional performances at local venues. This group meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. If you are interested in joining, please call Jeanne Bonneau at 508-543-8940.
TALESPINNERS – Under the Tent
Our stories and memories are what glue us together as families, neighborhoods and even whole societies. You may not consider yourself a writer or even a storyteller, but you may have interesting recollections to share. The Talespinners meet on Tuesday afternoons at 2 p.m. and in this group, you will have an opportunity to share and write about your memories and reflections.
WALKING CLUB
Join new friends as we travel together as a group walking around the Foxborough area. Our Walking Club meets at the senior center on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m., and from there we leave on our chosen route for the morning. Call us to sign up.
ART CLASSES WITH ALLY
The next 5-week series of Art classes with Ally at the senior center will begin on Thursday, July 30 and continue every Thursday through August 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. You must bring your own acrylic paints in primary colors, assorted brushes (flat & round tip), canvas, table top easel, palettes, pencil, eraser & ruler. The cost for the 5 sessions is $25 per person. Call to sign up.
MAH JONGG
Beginning once again on Thursday, Aug. 20, lean how to play the ancient Chinese game of Mah Jongg (adapted with American rules) at the senior center on Thursdays 10:45 a.m. to noon, or if you already know how to play, join us for some free play. You must call us to sign up in advance.
S.H.I.N.E
You can obtain health insurance information and assistance through the SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Everyone) Program. A SHINE counselor is available on Tuesdays, from 3 to 6 p.m. This program provides free and confidential health insurance information counseling and assistance to Massachusetts residents who are or will be eligible for Medicare and their families. Call for an appointment.
PLAY PING PONG
Ping pong is back! Thanks to the generous donations made in memory of Ray Malley, we now have a new ping pong table. All skill levels are welcome. This table is set up outside for the summer, under the front awning of the senior center. Players are welcome to play at any time, however, we have designated Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3:30 p.m. as a time to meet new friends and play.
PLAY HORSESHOES AT THE SENIOR CENTER
We have set up horseshoe posts in the side yard of the senior center. You can check-out our horseshoes at the front desk, and start playing! Additionally, we have designated Friday mornings from 9:15 to 12:30 p.m. as a time to meet new friends and play horseshoes while remaining socially distant.
CORNHOLE UNDER THE TENT
Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bean bags at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. Invite a friends to play and have fun! We have also designated Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3:30 p.m. as a time meet new people and enjoy playing this socially distant activity.
LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP
The next meeting of our Low Vision Support Group is on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. The Low Vision Support Group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month. This is an adult group providing peer support and information for anyone with vision loss, or those who have concerns about their vision. All seniors are welcome! Call Pam McGuire at the senior center for information, and bring your face mask.
HAMILTON MUSICAL VIDEO
Join us at the senior center to see the video of the smash hit musical “Hamilton” on Wednesday, Aug. 26 or Tuesday, Sept 1 at 4 p.m. This performance was filmed with the original cast in 2016 and recently premiered on Disney+. In an effort to enforce social distancing, we are limiting each date to only 6 registrants. If there is further demand, we may add additional showtimes. You must call us in advance to sign up.
Q and A WITH THE TOWN MANAGER
Come join in a conversation with William Keegan, the Foxborough Town Manager on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 12:30 p.m. The town Manager will provide updates on town proceedings and, if time allows, a Question and Answer session. Call us to sign up.
FRIENDS’ BINGO – BRING A FRIEND – ALL ARE WELCOME

MENS’ BBQ – Under the Tent
Come join your new best friends on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 12 noon, as we enjoy some burgers before the summer ends. Masks will be required when not eating. This event is free, but you must call us to sign up in advance.
CHARLIE CARDS FOR SENIORS
The CharlieCard is the payment method for the MBTA. On Friday, Sept. 4 from 11 to 11:30 a.m., the Foxborough Senior Center will be partnering with the MBTA to offer Senior CharlieCards for people 65+. These cards will allow you to have a reduced fair (approximately 50%) on the subway, bus, commuter rail and ferry. Call us to sign up.
