JACK CRAIG – THE GREATEST SONGS OF THE 1960’S

Join us for Jack Craig’s 3-part series on “The Greatest Songs of the 1060’s.” The 60’s was a time of social, political and cultural change in America, and music provided a constant soundtrack to those changes.  Take a step back to a time filled with long hair, bell-bottoms, tie-dye T-shirts, new musical styles and performers.  Each program in this 3-part series contains about 30 songs to sing, with Jack providing anecdotal information that recalls an amazing decade of American song-writing.  The programs start at 10:30 a.m. on the following Wednesdays:  June 22 – songs from 1960 to 1962; July 20 – songs from 1963 to 1965, and; August 10 – songs from 1966-69. SENIOR CENTER’S “SENIOR PROM”

The Foxborough Senior Center will be presenting a “Senior Prom” at the Lake View Pavilion on Thursday, June 16 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.  Join us for an afternoon of lunch, dancing and lots of fun.  The cost is $15 per person, and your meal choices are Pan Seared Boneless Chicken or Herb Crusted Cod.  Sign up at the senior center with your payment and meal choice. The Prom is sponsored by the Partners in Patriotism.  Don’t miss out on this great social event of the season!

 

VETERANS BENEFITS SEMINAR

VICTORIAN PAPERCRAFT

Are you looking to add a beautiful handmade creation to your home décor?  Join us on Wednesday, June 1 at 10 a.m. for a class on how to create a unique handcrafted Victorian design.  We will use high quality cardstock doilies, lance and other embellishments to create a lovely cone shaped vessel. This program is free and all materials will be provided.  Sign us to let us know if you’ll be joining us.

AVOCADO TOAST DAY

Channel your inner Millennial while enjoying a treat and celebrating National Avocado Toast Day with us on Wednesday, June 1 at 4 p.m.  This simple snack is a great source of plant-based fiber and protein.  Our Avocado toast will be toasted artisan bread, topped with smashed avocado, sesame seeds, minced garlic, onion and bacon bits. Space is limited, so please sign up in advance.

 

FOLIAGE TURKEY TRAIN TOUR

On Thursday, Oct. 20 we’ll be traveling up north to Meredith, NH.  We will be leaving Foxboro at 9 a.m. from St. Mary’s Parking Lot at 58 Carpenter Street. In Meredith, we’ll board the Winnipesaukee “Turkey Train” at the Hobo Railroad.  This 2-hour scenic train ride through the countryside of NH is complete with a delicious full turkey dinner complete with all the fixin’s!  This exceptional turkey meal is provided by Hart’s Turkey Farm.  Following the lunch train excursion, we board the motorcoach and head to Moulton Farms, in the heart of the Lakes Region.  The farm dates back to the 1890’s, and you can browse their farm stand & garden center or you can pick up a treat at their bakery.  The cost is $120 for Foxboro residents and $125 for non-residents. Registration with payment for Foxboro residents has begun, and registration with payment for non-residents begins on June 15. Join us for a fun day out, and enjoy some of our fall foliage.

 

BOOK CLUB

Our senior center Book Club will be meeting on Monday, June 6 at 11 a.m.  This program is designed for seniors who simply enjoy reading or listening to books on tape. If you are interested in taking part in the Book Club, sign up in advance. 

 

LUNCHEON OUTING

Our next luncheon outing will be on Wednesday, June 22 at Conrad’s in Foxborough at 1 p.m. Call us to sign up by Monday, June 20 and meet us at the restaurant on the 22nd.  For those who require van transportation, arrangements must be made by Monday the 20th

 

MEN’S BBQ

We are pleased to head back outside for our fun monthly Men’s BBQ’s.  Guys are encouraged to come hungry for a great BBQ on Wednesday, June 22 at 12 noon.  The cost is $3 per person. Please sign up in advance.

 

SENIOR OLYMPICS Q & A

Our popular Senior Olympics is BACK!  This exciting and engaging event is a great way to have fun and meet new friends while competing for a gold medal.  If you aren’t sure if you want to sign up, come to the Olympics Q & A on Thursday, June 9 at 3:15 p.m. 

 

1 ON 1 NUTRITION COUNSULTATION

On Monday, June 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. and continuing on the 2nd Monday of each month at the same time, join HESSCO’s Registered Dietitian Kelsey McEntee at the senior center for 30 minute 1 on1 nutrition consultations. Come prepared with your questions about your health concerns.  Call to set up an appointment.

DARTS/CORNHOLE PRACTICE

On Mondays, June 6 & 13 at 10:30 a.m., we will be holding Darts & Cornhole practice at the senior center.  Get in shape for the Darts and Cornhole events in our upcoming Senior Olympics.  We will have the Dart and Cornhole boards out for you to give it a try and get in some practice.

 

MAKING MUSIC

Calling all musicians and singers:  Bring your ukulele, guitar, voice or other acoustic instrument and join us for our “Making Music” program on June 6 at 1 p.m., and on the first Monday of every following month at 1 p.m.   All skills are encouraged and welcome to participate in this monthly FREE sing and play along experience.  We will explore fun and familiar songs. Sign up in advance to let us know you’ll be joining us.

 

MOVIE – “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN”

In honor of D-Day, we will be showing the 1998 Steven Spielberg film, “Saving Private Ryan.”  According to WWII veterans, this movie was the most accurate portrayal of the events of June 6, 1944.  Sign up in advance.

Do you want early access to all of programs?  There will be an Online Registration Tutorial program at the senior center on Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m.  This tutorial will teach you how to use our online registration tool which will give you priority access to all our services.  Sign up in advance.

 

AUTHOR TALK – HOW A MYSTERY IS WRITTEN

On Wednesday, June 8 at 2 p.m., join author Debi Graham-Leard at the senior center and learn the in-depth process of writing fiction.  Debi will explain the steps taken from initial idea through to the final publishing.  Be sure to sign up in advance.

 

A GUIDE TO GAMBLING IN THE GOLDEN YEARS

On Wednesday, June 8 at 4 p.m., the senior center will be presenting the program “A Guide to Gambling in the Golden Years.”  This engaging presentation delves into why older adults gamble and how to keep gambling healthy and fun.  The program, sponsored by the Mass Council on Gaming and Health, will share strategies to reduce risky gambling behaviors and where to go for help if needed. JACK AUTHELET - FOXBOROUGH HISTORY, MYSTERY AND PROMISE

Foxborough’s Town Historian Jack Authelet will be joining us at the senior center on Wednesday, June 8 at 11:15 a.m. to share some of Foxborough’s historic events of great importance, the mystery of promises never kept and future treasures to pass forward.  Don’t miss this chance to take part in Jack’s program, so please sign up in advance.

 

ANTHONY SAMMARCO – “ALONG BLUE HILL AVENUE”

By the turn of the 20th century, Mattapan began to see development of new streets laid out off of Blue Hill Ave, and Norfolk Street was slowly becoming a solid, respectable hub. Local author/historian, Anthony Sammarco, will be at the senior center on Wednesday, June 15 at 4:30 p.m. for a program that will take a deep dive into the history of Blue Hill Ave and the many transformations of the area over the last 150 years. Reserve your seat in advance and join us for this informative presentation. 

 

3 PLANES OF MOTION

Join us for Steve Avellino’s new 6-week program, “3 Planes of Motion.” This program is designed to redesign the way our bodies move.  We should move in 3 planes of motion.  Unfortunately, we don’t, and this causes instability, imbalances, and pain.  This can be corrected! The program is facilitated by Steve Avellino CFT, CES, SSF, SSN and will be offered on your choice of Mondays or Thursdays.  The Monday classes will be held at 11:45 a.m. on the following Mondays:  June 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1 & 8. The cost for the program is $42 per person.  Space is limited and you must sign up in advance with your payment.

 

JUNE MOVIE DAYS

The theme for our June Movie Days is “Olympics.”  The following movies will be shown at the senior center on Thursdays at 1 p.m.:

June 9 – “Eddie the Eagle” – The hysterical true life story of Britain’s most famous ski jumper, “Eddie the Eagle” Edwards (Taron Egerton) and his coach (Hugh Jackman).

June 30 – “Cool Runnings” – When a Jamaican sprinter is disqualified from the Olympic Games, he enlists the help of a dishonored coach (John Candy) to start the first Jamaican Bobsled Team.

 

VANGO DISCOVERY CLUB

The VanGo Discovery Club will start traveling once again on Wednesdays.  On our travel days we will be leaving from the park at Booth Playground (80 South Street) at 10:15 a.m. and returning to Foxborough by 4:30(ish). Registrants will travel using the VanGo for an independent, self-guided exploration for 3 to 4 hours. The cost is $7 per person and must be paid at the time you sign up. The following Discovery Club trips have been scheduled on the following dates; June 8 to Battleship Cove (free for veterans); June 22 to Plymouth (wine tasting optional); June 29 to Cape Cod Canal (Sandwich side); July 6 to Castle Island; July 20 to Tranquil Lake; Aug. 3 to Providence; Aug. 17 to Old Sturbridge Village; Aug. 31 to Wickford Village;  Sept 7 to Colt State Park; Sept. 21 to Falmouth Center; Oct. 5 to Legacy Place, and; Oct. 19 Mystery Trip. Seats are limited, and you must sign up with your payment in advance.

 

PODIATRY CLINIC

Starting Friday, June 3, Dr. Kelly McLaughlin will be holding a Podiatry Clinic for Podiatric Foot Care and Screening at the senior center on the 1st Friday of every month.  The cost for each 15 minute appointment is $30.  Please sign up and pay for your appointment in advance.

OUTDOOR ZUMBA CLASSES

On Thursdays at 1:30 p.m., we have added a second Zumba class to our schedule.  Enjoy everyone’s favorite Zumba class outdoors! The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible. Sign up in advance and join us for some great exercise and fun.

 

EARLY BEGINNER MAH JONGG

Every Friday at 9 a.m., there is an Early Beginner Mah Jongg program at the senior center.  This early beginner Mah Jongg free play group is for players who have only just recently started learning and may want to take each game a little slower than those who have played Mah Jongg for many years.  Sign up and let us know you’ll be joining us.

 

MEN’S FITNESS CLASS

The senior center is offering a Men’s Fitness Class on Thursdays at 10:35 a.m., beginning April 7.  This 6-week program is designed to help senior males move and feel better.  We combine fitness with corrective exercise to alleviate joint pain and promote better mobility.  All ages and fitness levels are welcome.  The program is facilitated by Steve Avellino CFT, CES and is being held on May 26, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30.  The cost is $42 and must be paid at the time you sign up.

 

REFLEXOLOGY APPOINTMENTS

On Wednesday, June 15 the senior center is offering reflexology appointments from 9 a.m. to noon. Reflexology is based on stimulating specific points on the feet that correspond to other areas and organs of the body.  Reflexology is used to restore the body’s natural equilibrium by improving circulation and reducing tension. This relaxing and rejuvenating experience will involve aromatherapy infused reflexology. The cost is $41 per half hour appointment. Sign up with your payment to schedule an appointment.

 

LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP

The Low Vision Support Group will be meeting on Thursday, June 16, 1 to 2 p.m.  This adult group provides peer support and information for anyone with vision loss or those who have concerns about their vision.  If you are interested in participating, please check with Pam McGuire by calling 508-543-1234 for final details

 

SENIOR SANDWICHES

On Thursdays, we offer Grab and Go Senior Sandwiches at the senior center. You can pick up your sandwich at the front desk on Thursdays at any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and you can take the sandwich with you, or you are welcome to eat in the Coffee Room or on the outside benches. Quantities are limited, so you MUST sign up in advance to get your Senior Sandwich meal. There is a suggested donation of $3 to HESSCO.

 

BRIDGE LESSONS

Bridge is a card game that is played all over the world, in person and online.  If you’ve always wanted to learn how to play Bridge, this is your opportunity. The classes are held on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunil Trivedi is the instructor and he will introduce new and interested players to the game. Please sign up in advance.

 

HEARING HEALTH

On Wednesdays, June 1, 8, 15 & 22 there will be Hearing Clinics offered from 1 to 3 p.m.  This program is free and provides a hearing screening, ear wax removal, hearing aid cleaning and service by appointment. Call in advance to schedule a 20 minute appointment.

 

SALEM CROSS INN & QUABBIN RESERVOIR TRIP

On Thursday, Aug. 11 we’ll be off for an amazing trip to the Salem Cross Inn in W. Brookfield, MA for lunch and a guided tour of the Quabbin Reservoir.  We’ll be leaving Foxborough at 9 a.m. from the side parking lot of St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter Street.  Join us as we start off the day with a tour of the Quabbin and learn about the intriguing history of the reservoir and why it was built during the Depression Era.  After the tour, we’re off to the Salem Cross Inn, a beautifully restored 1700’s colonial home. At the Inn, we’ll enjoy their Original Historic Fireplace Feast.  For lunch, you will have a choice of Prime Rib (prepared by the open hearth) or Old Fashioned Chicken Pot Pie served with a buttermilk biscuit. Both meals are served with salad, seasonal fresh vegetable, potato, homemade rolls & muffins, tea/coffee & homemade dessert.  The cost is $122 for Foxboro residents and $127 for non-residents.  Registration with payment has begun. SIGN UP FOR CAPE ANN TOUR

Join us on Thursday, Sept. 8 for a day trip to Cape Ann, America’s oldest port. We will be leaving from St. Mary’s parking lot, 58 Carpenter Street, at 9:30 a.m. and traveling by motorcoach on a scenic drive to Essex Mass. We will be stopping for a delicious lunch at The Village Restaurant, where your meal choice will include Clam Strips, Grilled Salmon or a Burger.  A step-on guide will meet us after lunch for a 2-hour guided tour of Essex, Rockport and Gloucester.  After the tour, we will drop you off downtown for free time to explore on your own before departing for home.  Shop in quaint stores, admire the art galleries or just sit by the water and take in the beauty that is the Massachusetts Coast. The cost is $94 for Foxboro residents and $99 for non-residents.  Registration with payment has begun.

MAH JONGG FREE PLAY

Mah Jongg Free Play meets every Wednesday from 12:30 to 3 p.m.  Sign up in advance if you’d like to join us.

 

CHAIR YOGA

Chair Yoga classes are held at the senior center every Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. under the direction of Michelle Lawlor of the YMCA. Yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting in a chair or while standing and using the chair for support. The cost for this class is $3 and is punch card eligible.  Due to limited space, you must call in advance to register for the class.

 

TAI CHI

On Tuesdays, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., start your day with the peaceful meditation and movement of Tai Chi with instructor Elijah Swain.  Elijah is a 9th Degree black belt and is the owner of the Tai Jing Academy.  The cost of each class is $3 and is punch-card eligible.  Our thanks to the Friends of Foxboro Seniors for helping to fund this program.  Call us to sign up.

 

ZUMBA GOLD

Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin Dance.  Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic tine that is fun and easy to follow.  Join us on Tuesday mornings at 9:45 a.m.  The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible.  Space is limited, so please call in advance to sign up for each class.

 

NUTRITION CLASS

The Nutrition Class meets at the senior center on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Members of the class talk about good food, good nutrition and good health, and share their ideas. Call us to sign up!

 

SCRABBLE GROUP

Do you enjoy playing a game of Scrabble or would you like to learn how to play?  We have a Scrabble group that meets on Monday afternoons at 1 p.m. at the senior center.  Challenge your mind, enjoy some time with friends and have lots of fun.  If you’re interested in playing, call us to sign up.

 

TABLE TOP GARDEN CLUB

The senior center Table Top Garden Club meets every Tuesday, at 9:45 a.m. at the senior center. Under the direction of Marsha Lewicke, this club explores gardening techniques, tends our outdoor raised garden beds, and has group discussions regarding different varieties of plant life.  No previous gardening experience is necessary.   Call us to sign up.

 

STRENGTH TRAINING

Our Strength Training classes are held every Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m.  Each week this program features stretching routines and exercises that focus on the core, legs, arms and shoulders. The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible.

 

SENIOR FITNESS

Join is for our Senior Fitness classes on Friday mornings at 8:45 a.m.  This class uses stretching, aerobics and hand-held weights, to focus on exercising the body from the neck to the ankles.  Senior Fitness is designed for all levels of fitness. The cost is $3 per class and is punch card eligible.

 

KNITTING

Our knitting group meets at 1 p.m. at the senior center every Monday afternoon. This group loves to gather and chat, knit, and even do some crocheting, if you so choose.  Everyone is welcome to attend, just bring your knitting project to work on.  Please sign up in advance.

 

FOXBORO FARMERS MARKET ON THE COMMON

The 2022 season of the Farmers Market On The Common in Foxborough will begin on June 2 and will continue every Thursday, through September 8th from 4 to 7 p.m.
