DPW Office Hours
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays - 7:30am to 4:00pm;
Tuesdays - 7:30am to 7:00pm;
Fridays - 7:30am to 12:30pm;
(except on holidays)
Hazardous Waste is brought to the highway garage on Hazardous Waste Day ONLY.
Hazardous Waste Day is a bi-annual event and is usually held in the Spring and Fall. Hazardous Waste Day is advertised via local newspapers, social media, flyers, and message boards around town.
For 2024:
Spring Hazardous Waste Day: Saturday, March 30th, 2024, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Fall Hazardous Waste Day: Saturday, October 26th, 2024, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
Batteries
Non-Rechargeable batteries (Alkaline AA, AAA, C, D, 3, 6, 9, and 12) may be disposed of in your trash.
Rechargeable batteries (Lithium ion, Nickel cadmium, Nickel metal Hydride, Small sealed lead) should be brought to the Highway Department during office hours.
Christmas Trees
Christmas trees are collected on your trash day the first 2 weeks in January by our Tree and Park Department.
Please place your undecorated tree curbside before 7:00 AM on your trash day.
Please note:

Trees with any ornaments, garland, or lights will not be collected

Trees with stands or in a bag will not be collected

No wreaths will be collected.
Electronics
The Town does NOT take any electronics.
Best Buy and Staples have programs where you can drop off electronics such as Cell Phones, Computers, Monitors, iPads, Printers, etc. Please call your local store for details.
Mattresses
Mattresses are no longer collected by trash companies. Two possible options to discard a mattress responsibly:

Inquire when buying a new mattress if the company will take the old one (possibly for a fee).

Mattresses are made up mostly of recyclable materials. Once disassembled, more than 75 percent of their components can be reused. This is better for the environment and the reasoning behind Mass DEP placing them on the Waste Ban list.
Mercury Items
All mercury-bearing items (fluorescent bulbs, thermometers, etc.) may be brought to the Highway Garage during regular business hours.
Metals
Metals may be picked up by appointment from your trash company.
Motor Oil
Motor oil is no longer accepted at the DPW except on Hazardous Waste Days. Some auto stores may take used motor
oil if purchased at their location with receipt.
Paint/Thinners/Stains
Latex-based paints can be disposed in regular trash once solidified.
Solidify paint by mixing with kitty litter or paint hardener packets purchased at local stores.
Oil-based paints, thinners, and stains may be brought to the Highway Garage on Mondays only (excluding holidays), 8:00AM - 3:00PM.
Tires
Tires no longer accepted by trash companies. Please check with the company you purchased them from (and/or any local store that sells tires), as they may offer a return program.
Rain barrels are supplied by the Water Department and can be purchased by check or added to your water bill for $50 each.

Foxborough does NOT have a recycling program. Please contact your chosen trash provider for recycling bins. Learn more about recycling on the Health Department page.
All dead animals are reported to the Animal Control Officer by calling (508) 543-4343 ext. 267
Town Roads:
Potholes on town accepted streets may be reported to the town highway office at (508) 543-1228. Per town by-law, we have 24 to 48 hours from the time of report to fill them.
All damage claims are reported to the Town Manager's Office at (508) 543-1219 and submitted to insurance companies.
State Roads & Highways (including Route 1):
Potholes on state highways may be reported to Mass Highway at (857)-368-6999.
All damage claims on state roads should be reported to MassDOT on their website:

Private Streets:
Responsibility for fixing potholes on unaccepted/private streets varies from street to street.
Issues with street lights may be reported to the highway department at (508) 543-1228.
Please provide as much information as possible, including the street name; the nearest address; the pole number; and whether it is out, flickering, or on during the day. The wait time after being reported can be up to 2 or 3 weeks per contractor.
The Tree and Park Department is only permitted to work on trees that are either located within the right of way of a town-accepted street or on town property. We will ensure that the tree is indeed our responsibility when working on tree-related issues.
If the tree's branches are in between or touching electrical or telephone wires, please call National Grid at 1-(800)-322-3223. The wait time after being reported can be up to 6 weeks.
